Nesting

(2005, color/sound, for projection, 7:46)

This video is a performance that occurs in three stages. The bird spirit begins a pushing/pulling ritual that emulates the process of choosing a place. It becomes a struggle between two dimensions of the same being, but in the end location is unimportant. In phase two the chosen place is celebrated, and the duality of the character is harmonious, and movement occurs in disjointed unison. The final performance is the beckoning of a resting place, in which the duality of the being is reserved for a corporal transformation. The character's presence activates the place, and is paramount to the disruption of time. Throughout the video live action becomes animated, and the majority of the final phase is expressed in stop motion. The sonic environment integrates the character's movements with the various sounds of the living space: steam pipes, fan belts, and generators.
