Metaphorical Response: the Work of Tim Hawkinson in Dialogue with the New Human (Tele)Presence
Tim Hawkinson’s Emotor (2002) has a title that refers to both a mechanical function and what the mechanism is meant to express. The piece is composed of altered ink-jet prints, plastic and foam core on panel, a monitor, a stepladder, and mechanical components. Like most of Hawkinson’s pieces, Emotor seems to critique the unpredictable ways in which the technologies of postindustrial society have obscured and distorted the perception of the corporeal self.
